IN­TRO­DUC­TION

Our school “San Atón” be­comes a semi pri­vate school in the aca­demic year 2000- 2001 in­creas­ing this way the aca­demic of­fer on the right bank of the river Gua­di­ana.

The char­ac­ter­is­tics of the neigh­bor­hood that make up this wide area of Bada­joz make us con­sider that the in­vest­ment on the in­crease of ed­u­ca­tional lev­els is highly nec­es­sary for the de­vel­op­ment of the area the same as pro­grams and suc­cess­ful ini­tia­tives.

The school San Atón as it is re­flected on its ed­u­ca­tional project is a school with a very clear ob­jec­tive, to pro­vide a whole qual­ity for­ma­tion to the stu­dents of Sec­ondary ed­u­ca­tion and Bachiller­ato, pay­ing spe­cial at­ten­tion to the stu­dents with learn­ing needs.

Our ed­u­ca­tional project com­ple­ments it­self with the pro­duc­tion of pro­grams and ped­a­gog­i­cal ini­tia­tives that in­crease the ed­u­ca­tional of­fer in ar­eas such as: sport, ecol­ogy, mu­sic, arts, mass me­dia and the de­vel­op­ment of read­ing and writ­ing.

For that we count with a very well trained staff iden­ti­fied and in­volved in the stu­dents´ ed­u­ca­tional needs. For that, we of­fer a kind of ed­u­ca­tion based on a method­ol­ogy that in­te­grates in­for­ma­tion and com­mu­ni­ca­tion tech­nolo­gies and the lin­guis­tic com­pe­tence as well.

Ob­jec­tives:

• Be­ing aware of the main en­vi­ron­men­tal prob­lems pro­mot­ing at­ti­tudes and val­ues that lead all the ed­uca­tive com­mu­nity to par­tic­i­pate in its pro­tec­tion and im­prove­ment.
• Pro­mot­ing the three “R”: Re­duc­ing, Re­cy­cling, Reusing”, etc.

Ac­tions that have been car­ried out:

• Green team

• Barter fair
• Green pa­trols
• In­tel­li­gent lights etc

What have we achieved?

The sat­is­fac­tion sur­vey shows that we are on our right track.

2. AREA OF DE­VEL­OP­MENT OF READ­ING, WRIT­ING AND THE USE OF THE SCHOOL LI­BRARY.

Ob­jec­tives:

• Pro­mot­ing qual­ity read­ing in the class­room fa­vor­ing the nec­es­sary at­mos­phere to carry out a pleas­ant read­ing within the school timetable.
• Guar­an­tee­ing that our stu­dents ex­ceed the na­tional av­er­age of books read in one year.
• Pro­mot­ing en­thu­si­asm for read­ing and writ­ing
• Strength­en­ing the stu­dents´ cre­ativ­ity via school pub­li­ca­tions.

2.1. The “Crono­pio” Project.

Ac­tions that have been achieved

• 30 min­utes of daily read­ing within the sub­ject set for that day on sched­ule.
• Stu­dents can ei­ther pick out a book from the class li­brary or they can bring their own books from home.
• They can read in the lan­guages that they are learn­ing at school (Span­ish, Eng­lish, Por­tuguese)
• It´s is a project that is car­ried out along with the mu­sic project.

What have we achieved?

• Our class­room li­braries have a vast ar­ray of books with dif­fer­ent top­ics and lan­guages.
• Our stu­dents read an av­er­age of 12 books ev­ery school year.
• When our stu­dents fin­ish their Sec­ondary Ed­u­ca­tion they have read an av­er­age of 50 books.

2.2. School news­pa­per: “La Chincheta”.

Ob­jec­tives:

• Pro­vid­ing the ed­uca­tive com­mu­nity a mean of com­mu­ni­ca­tion both in the recre­ational and the ed­u­ca­tional field.
• En­cour­ag­ing stu­dents to write their own ar­ti­cles
• De­vel­op­ing the stu­dents´ crit­i­cal thought, di­a­logue and re­spect to­wards the oth­ers.

• Pro­vid­ing, fa­cil­i­tat­ing and sup­port­ing the stu­dents´ ed­u­ca­tional needs.
• Of­fer­ing the stu­dents the school li­brary as a way to bor­row or con­sult books.
• Go­ing be­yond the li­brary it­self and tak­ing the books to the class­room, cre­at­ing an­other li­brary in the class with books in dif­fer­ent lan­guages.
